8/17/2020 – The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) has issued a press release (click on the date to get taken to their site) stating that on July 29 they trapped a male Asian giant hornet, Vespa mandarinia. This is the second trap collection of this species in the US and the seventh in Washington State (all in Whatcom County). WSDA is hoping to collect a female V. mandarinia live, fit her with a transmitter and let her fly, hopefully back to the nest, so it can be found and destroyed.
