Update on African swine fever

21 October 2018 – The African swine fever outbreak in China is not under control. Domestic pigs in farms in 9 Chinese provinces have been affected and the fear now is that it might “jump” to wild boars, Sus scrofa ferus. So the questions are: are the soft ticks biting domestic pigs willing (capable) of biting wild boars? It seems we do not know much about the ecology of S. s. ferus, what are the odds we know much about their ticks?
