Bluetongue virus is Baack!

8 November 2017 –  Infected cattle were detected in England imported from an area in France recently identified as infected <arrgh!> Even as the season draws to a close – we are in November and this virus is transmitted by midges (Culicoides) – the new outbreak is gaining momentum – while before the predominant viral serotype was BTV-8, a new serotype (BTV-4) has been identified <double arrgh!!> For more details on this and prior outbreaks of BTV in Europe click here.
